Awesome city Salvador de Bahia.
So colorful and lively, and so different from Rio de Janeiro.
In Salvador I felt the real taste of Brazil.

Nice shot. For some reason it makes me hungry. Was there good food?
I’ve traveled in bahia, but haven’t been to Salvador yet… It is definitely one of the cities on my list. It was the first capital of Brazil and therefore alone it has a lot of historic value.

I actually don’t have much on my blog about Brazil yet (a couple posts and some photos), but I’m working on a post about some places I’ve loved there and some other highlights.
You are from Italy? I spent quite a bit of time there when I was younger and hope to spend lots more time there in the future. I studied the Italian Renaissance as the focus of my bachelor’s degree and of course loved Florence. What a beautiful country you are fortunate to live in!
Simon,
I just wrote a post about Northern Brazil (about Belem and acai, actually), but when I mentioned Salvador, I linked to your post because of your great photo. I hope it’s OK.
And yes, you’re right– visiting anywhere in Brazil with my husband is great because I never have to worry about the language (even though I speak Portuguese), the ways of doing things, what to order, etc., and I even feel safer because we don’t look like tourists there.
Hi Jenna, I am pleased that you linked the Salvador photo within your post and that you liked it. Brazil is an amazing country and I’ll go on reading your posts to know it better.
Cheers!
What a great picture!! My husband is from Brazil, so we go there every year for at least 1 month. He and his family spent a week in Salvador last summer, and I am hoping they will want to go back this summer so that I can go. He raved about it, and I have heard lots of great things about it from other sources, as well. Seems like a wonderful mix of culture, music, beach life, and beautiful architecture. BTW, it was listed as one of the places to go this year by the New York Times partly because of the new Auguste Rodin gallery there. http://www.nytimes.com/2010/01/10/travel/10places.html?ref=travel
A new Auguste Rodin gallery? Then… I’ll have to go back! Salvador de Bahia is really special, and I’m sure you’ll love it. And I guess that visiting it with your husband, who is a native Brazilian, can let you have the best of that experience!
