No matter the country, language, religion or traditions, lots of people have something in common: they all feel citizens of the world. That’s the thought that inspired me in launching ‘Beyond Borders‘ guest post series. Because ‘Borders’ are first of all in our minds.
“Beyond Borders” … I took some time to think about these two words, what do they mean? It can be a number of things: crossing that bridge of a different way of living or crossing your own border by finding new goals in life, pushing yourself to go for those new challenges in life.
When you ask me what does “Beyond Borders” mean to you? I think of my travels, which in a way is literally going beyond borders. Traveling is exploring another country, their culture, their language… getting to know people. It’s an interest in their culture, their food, their beliefs and their way of life.
We fly beyond borders to experience new adventures or to be with friends or loved ones. But in the end it doesn’t feel like crossing a border. It feels like meeting new people and in search for the next adventure. But you don’t always literally have to cross borders to get to know new people.
Twitter is a perfect example. I’ve already met so many new people from all over the world, without leaving my room. I’ve gotten to know their personality, their country and their thoughts by communicating through being a part of the social media platform.
Although I have to admit it is really nice to put a face to the Twitter account, like I was able to do on my last Blog Trip to Valencia. It was the first time I met a lot of my followers/friends in person. And I’ve noticed that the person sending out those tweets is what I expected him or her to be.
I think it’s the way people tweet or retweet that shows their interests and lets you get to know a person. I’m amazed by how easy it is to get along with people you meet on Twitter. Maybe it’s because you have similar interests that it brings you closer together or maybe it’s just because we’re all open minded people who love to explore the world. I don’t know, but it’s been a great journey so far and I for one can’t wait to meet up with more friends from Twitter in the future!
So even if you don’t have the opportunity to literally go beyond borders, you can always get to know new people just a mouse click away

Fab post Isabelle! I remember talking with you & Nellie about Twitter personalities and how they easily reflect the real person behind the tweets. It’s amazing how much one can say about one’s self in 140 characters!
