La Gran Sabana, or the ‘Lost World’

Venezuela-Gran-Sabana

Venezuela, Gran Sabana

One of the most remote and wild areas in Venezuela, no wonders that the Gran Sabana (The Great Savannah) is said to have inspired Sir Arthur Conan Doyle‘s novel ‘The Lost World, back in 1912.

Lying on a plateau with an average altitude of 1,000 meters above the sea level and home of the Tepuis (the table-top mountains), the Gran Sabana is part of Canaima National Park, a UNESCO World Heritage Site since 1994.

I felt sometimes overwhelmed by this amazing wilderness and fascinated by the ever changing sky and the almost unique light embracing the landscape. I tried to capture the colours of the sky and the strong emotion I felt while crossing this wild landscape.

I wish I were a better photographer and I hope I could transfer at least a little of this amazing, wild beauty.

    • Er… Thank you Jeremy. Indeed, I must say that I love that photo. But if you ask me how I got it… No idea! Anyway, the colors and the sky in the Gran Sabana are absolutely stunning. I barely found them in any other place I visited so far.

  4. What an incredible shot. Finally found someone else who has been to Venezuela! What an amazing experience right? I did take my waterproof camera and my large one and spent most of my time making sure my poncho was close in case of water accidents! Love this shot. I took some shots of Angel Falls that dont even look half as good as this. Look forward to reading more of your articles!

    • Thank you Ayngelina. You’re too good. It was even shot with my small camera. Did not bring with me the big one. Too afraid of thieves and water… :-)
